La Traviata -- an opera by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901). The premiere was at Teatro la Fenice, Venice, March 6, 1853. Verdi's romantic tragic tale of a Parisian courtesan who sacrifices all for love is vividly told in Richard Eyre's production. La Traviata is one of themost beloved Italian operas.
